Sound in Linux/Ubuntu 8.04
June 9th, 2008What is up with the sound in Ubuntu/Linux?
Once in a while Pidgin will *bling* some demonic version of it *bling* sound. And, often, I’m watching (listening) to a YouTube video or listening to some jams on Rhythmbox, and they want to fight each other for control. You know, I’m smart enough to figure some of these things out, but I’m still a typical consumer when, often, I’m too lazy to fix it, and I’d like the people in charge of the product to fix it.
And I can’t use Skype, one of my favorite chatting apps, because anytime I try to use the microphone my systems slows way down for some reason. I had to duel boot Windows Vista, just for the occasion. Again, isn’t this the Ubuntu people’s problem? I don’t know, I wonder how all the things I gripe about are going to work when I get a Dell, if I get a Dell.
I know in the back of my mind, I’m thinking: “Just use Windows!” But, I really stand for what is going on in OSS, mainly Ubuntu, plus I love the mind-job the community has given to it’s features, it’s rich, just still in a bad neighborhood.
Note: I just got some updates, some Firefox, some ALSA - Still struggling here!
